The best Zanzibar travel packages match your trip style, not just your budget. Choose a flight and hotel bundle for the simplest booking and an all-inclusive resort for zero planning on the beach. Pick a tailor-made bush-and-beach package if you also want a safari, and an adults-only stay for a honeymoon. From the U.S. East Coast, expect roughly $1,500 to $3,700 per person for a standard bundle with flights, and less if you book only the land arrangements.
The real problem is that package pages rarely show what is left out. Transfers, tours, resort taxes, and flights are often priced separately, so two packages that look similar can differ by hundreds of dollars. This article compares six package types by what they include, what they cost, and who they suit, so you can judge them side by side.
We are Golden Trips Tanzania, a locally owned operator based in Arusha. We build Zanzibar beach stays on their own and combined with safaris, so we know where bundles work well and where they leave gaps. Our own option comes first, and every other type gets judged on the same terms.
1. Golden Trips Tanzania bush-and-beach packages
A tailor-made bush-and-beach package is the strongest choice if you want more than sand, because it joins a Tanzania safari and a Zanzibar beach stay in one plan. Golden Trips Tanzania designs these from Arusha, so the safari and the island are handled by the same people. You deal with one local team instead of three separate bookings.

What’s included
Every itinerary is built around your dates, interests, and budget, so inclusions vary. The usual building blocks are:
- A private 4×4 safari vehicle with a local guide in parks such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara
- A Zanzibar beach stay in the hotel category you choose
- Accommodation on the mainland that ranges from rustic camps to luxury lodges
- Itineraries from a 2-day fly-in trip up to 14 days, with Kenya and Tanzania options
- A free quotation and direct contact by WhatsApp while you plan
Price and who it suits
Prices start from $970 per person for the shortest options and rise with the number of safari days and the lodge level. Most operator packages exclude international flights, so confirm that line in your quote. You can see the combined bush-and-beach options on the Tanzania and Zanzibar safari packages page.
This package suits first-time visitors, honeymooners, and families who want bush and beach in one trip. It is not the right pick if you only want a week at a resort with flights bundled in, because you would pay for flexibility you will not use.
A bush-and-beach package gives you one plan, one team, and one price for the safari and the island.
2. Flight and hotel bundles from travel agencies
A flight and hotel bundle is the easiest Zanzibar package to book and the best fit if you want a beach week with no safari. Online travel agencies combine your round-trip flights and a hotel at a discount compared with booking each separately, and you can filter by budget and star rating.
What’s included
Bundles are narrow by design. Expect:
- Round-trip flights from your departure airport to Zanzibar (ZNZ)
- Hotel nights, sometimes with breakfast
- Taxes and fees shown at checkout
Airport transfers, tours, and meals beyond breakfast are usually extra. Flights from the U.S. typically connect through a hub such as Doha, Dubai, Addis Ababa, or Nairobi, so check total travel time before you commit.
Price and who it suits
Sample listings from the New York area for 5 to 7 nights ran from about $1,460 to $2,540 per person including flights, and a luxury island resort reached about $3,700. These are snapshots, and fares move with the season. Add the cost of tours separately. A sunset dhow cruise or a Mnemba Island snorkeling trip is listed at roughly $15 to $55 per adult.
Bundles suit independent travelers who are comfortable arranging their own transfers and excursions. They are a weak fit for first-timers who want local advice, since nobody on the other end knows the island.
Bundles save money on flights and hotel, but you build everything else yourself.
3. All-inclusive beach resort packages
An all-inclusive resort package is the best Zanzibar option for a relaxed family or couples week where you want food, drinks, and activities covered. You pay once and stop budgeting daily, which matters on an island where resort restaurant prices add up.
What’s included
Details differ by resort, but all-inclusive stays usually cover:
- Accommodation, buffet and à la carte meals, and drinks
- Pools, beach loungers, and often non-motorized water sports
- Kids’ clubs at family resorts, or an adults-only policy at others
Listed examples include Hotel Riu Palace Swahili in Nungwi, which is adults-only, and Iberostar Selection Zanzibar on Muyuni Beach, which lists five pools, a kids’ club, and water park access.
Price and who it suits
Listings showed about $280 to $420 per night for a double at these resorts, based on one night for two adults and before extras. Package pricing with flights runs higher, around $2,000 per person for five nights from New York.
Choose the coast carefully. Nungwi and Kendwa on the north allow swimming at most tides, while the east coast has big tides that pull the sea far out at low tide. Families should also look at our Tanzania family safari packages if a few days of wildlife would round out the trip.
On the east coast, check the tide tables before you pay for a beachfront all-inclusive.
4. Honeymoon and couples packages
A honeymoon package is worth it when privacy and setting matter more than price, and the best ones combine adults-only resorts with a short safari. Zanzibar suits couples well because the beach, the old town, and the dhow sunsets are all close together.
What’s included
Look for these features rather than the marketing label:
- An adults-only or quiet, low-density property
- Sea-view or beachfront rooms, and breakfast or half board
- Private transfers instead of shared shuttles
- Optional extras such as a sunset cruise or spa session
Price and who it suits
Bundles with flights from New York listed about $1,593 per person for an adults-only hotel, and about $3,700 per person for a luxury island hotel listed as part of The Leading Hotels of the World. A Tanzania safari followed by a beach finish costs more, but couples often find the contrast worth it.
If you want a few nights in the Serengeti before the beach, ask for a tailor-made plan through the Tanzania and Zanzibar safari packages page. Beach-only couples are better served by a bundle with a hotel you chose yourself.
Book the hotel for the room and setting, because a honeymoon label alone adds little.
5. Stone Town and island tour packages
A Stone Town and island tour package is the best low-cost way to see Zanzibar’s history and culture, and it suits short stays of three to five days. It pairs a hotel with guided half-day tours, so you see the island’s history without arranging each excursion.

What’s included
Typical inclusions are:
- A guided walk through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- A spice farm visit and, often, Prison Island
- A sea trip to a sandbank such as Nakupenda, or Jozani Forest to see red colobus monkeys
- Hotel nights with breakfast and airport transfers
Price and who it suits
Stone Town hotels start low. Tembo House Hotel on Forodhani Street was listed at about $104 per night. Individual Zanzibar excursions ran from about $15 for a sunset dhow cruise to $55 for a Mnemba Island day tour, so a self-built version can cost less than a packaged one. Buy a package when you value convenience, and build your own when you have time to compare.
This option suits history lovers, budget travelers, and anyone adding a few island days to a mainland trip. It is less suited to travelers who want a full week of resort time.
Stone Town tours cost little individually, so a package only pays off if it saves you real planning time.
6. Short fly-in safari plus beach packages
A short fly-in safari from Zanzibar is the best pick if you are already booked on the island and want to see Tanzania’s wildlife in a few days. You fly to the mainland parks and return to the beach, so you skip the long overland journey.

What’s included
A typical short fly-in itinerary covers:
- Flights between Zanzibar and the mainland
- Game drives in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, or Lake Manyara
- Park fees, lodge or camp nights, and a private guide
- Return to Zanzibar for the rest of your beach stay
Price and who it suits
A 4-day fly-in safari starts from $1,287 per person, and tailor-made versions are quoted on request. See the fly-in safari options from Zanzibar on our Tanzania safari from Zanzibar page.
This works well for beach travelers who realize halfway through planning that they want wildlife too. Keep in mind that the shortest trips cover fewer parks, so pick one or two rather than trying to see everything. If you want the Crater specifically, look at our Ngorongoro Crater safari trips.
Three or four days on the mainland turns a beach holiday into a Tanzania trip.
How to compare Zanzibar packages before you book
Compare Zanzibar packages by total cost and exact inclusions, not by the headline price. Two offers can look alike until you check flights, transfers, tours, and taxes. A short checklist and the right season keep you from overpaying.
Price comparison at a glance
This table sets the six package types side by side. Figures come from listed examples and starting prices, and they change with dates.
| Package type | Typical figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Bush-and-beach (Golden Trips Tanzania) | From $970 | Per person, shortest options |
| Flight and hotel bundle | $1,460 to $3,700 | Per person with flights, from New York |
| All-inclusive resort | $280 to $420 | Per night, double room |
| Honeymoon bundle | $1,593 to $3,700 | Per person with flights |
| Stone Town hotel and tours | $104 hotel, $15 to $55 tours | Per night and per adult |
| Fly-in safari from Zanzibar | From $1,287 | Per person, 4 days |
What to check in every quote
Ask these questions before you pay:
- Are international flights included, and which airports and layovers?
- Are airport transfers private or shared?
- What meals are covered, and are drinks included?
- Which tours and park fees are in the price?
- Are resort taxes and fees shown in the total?
- What is the cancellation policy?
When to go, and staying safe
Prices follow demand. December through February is slightly high season, July and August are priced slightly high, and April and May are cheapest but bring the heavy rains. November is usually lower priced, with light rain.
| Months | Weather | Pricing |
|---|---|---|
| December to February | Warm, mostly sunny, light rain | Higher |
| March | Hottest, light rain | Average |
| April to May | Frequent rain | Lower |
| June to September | Dry, cooler | Average to higher |
| October to November | Light rain | Average to lower |
Zanzibar is a popular destination, but take normal precautions. Keep valuables out of sight in Stone Town and on beaches, and dress modestly away from the resorts. Check the U.S. State Department travel advisory and the CDC travelers’ health page for Tanzania, and ask your doctor about malaria prevention.
The cheapest package is the one whose inclusions you have checked, not the one with the lowest headline price.
Choosing your Zanzibar package
Pick the package by trip style. Bundles suit independent beach weeks, all-inclusive resorts suit relaxed families and couples, tour packages suit short cultural stays, and a bush-and-beach plan suits anyone who wants wildlife as well. Whichever you choose, compare total cost and inclusions, and avoid April and May unless you want rain for a lower price.
