7-Day Kilimanjaro Group Tour Lemosho Route

The 7-Day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting on the western side of the mountain, it offers breathtaking landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and a high summit success rate. Trekkers pass through lush rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

Day 1
Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, depart from Arusha or Moshi and drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Continue by vehicle to the Lemosho trailhead and begin your trek through the lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys and colorful birdlife as you make your way to Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2
Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail ascends steadily across the Shira Ridge with spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding landscape. Continue across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp.

Day 3
Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Today is an important acclimatization day. Ascend gradually to Lava Tower, where you will have lunch at an altitude of 4,630 meters. After spending some time at this higher elevation, descend to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps improve acclimatization and increases summit success rates.

Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, one of the highlights of the Lemosho Route. After reaching the top, enjoy stunning views before continuing through valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp.

Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

After breakfast, continue through the alpine desert landscape toward Barafu Camp, the final camp before the summit attempt. Arrive in the afternoon, enjoy an early dinner, and rest in preparation for the climb to Uhuru Peak.

Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp (Summit Day)

Around midnight, begin your summit ascent. Pass Stella Point before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement and take photos at the Roof of Africa before descending to Barafu Camp for a short rest. Continue down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
