Your adventure begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, followed by a rugged 15 km ride to the trailhead. After lunch, start your hike through a dense rainforest teeming with wildlife—keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys! After a short but scenic walk, arrive at Big Tree Camp for dinner and overnight.
Today’s trek transitions from rainforest into moorland. The trail ascends gradually through rolling hills covered in erica and lobelia plants. After 3–4 hours, reach Shira Camp 1, offering your first clear view of Kibo Peak, Kilimanjaro’s majestic summit.
Enjoy a more relaxed day as you traverse the Shira Plateau. The path is mostly flat, offering panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley and Mount Meru. Walk across ancient lava flows surrounded by unique alpine flora like giant lobelias. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp.
Today is crucial for acclimatization. Ascend to Lava Tower (4640m) for lunch before descending to Barranco Camp (3960m). This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adapt to altitude changes. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by alien-like vegetation including giant senecios and lobelias.
Tackle the famous Barranco Wall—a steep but non-technical climb requiring light scrambling. Navigate narrow ledges and the “Kissing Rock” before reaching the beautiful Karanga Valley. Karanga Camp is the final water point before the summit.
Make your way through a dry, moon-like alpine desert to Barafu Camp, your base before the summit attempt. From here, you’ll see both Mawenzi Peak and the final route to Uhuru Peak. After an early dinner and a short rest, prepare for your summit push at midnight.
Summit Day! Wake around midnight for a hot drink and begin your ascent under a starlit sky. Hike through scree to Stella Point (5730m), then follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. After celebratory photos, descend to Barafu for rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp for your final night.
After breakfast and a farewell ceremony from your crew, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Look out for the vibrant Impatiens Kilimanjaro flowers. At the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates and transfer back to Arusha, where you can relax and celebrate your achievement.
