The 7-Day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting on the western side of the mountain, it offers breathtaking landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and a high summit success rate. Trekkers pass through lush rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit zones before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

Day 1
Londorossi Gate (2,100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)

After breakfast, depart Moshi or Arusha and drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Continue to the trailhead and begin your trek through the lush rainforest.

The trail winds through dense forest where you may encounter black-and-white colobus monkeys and various bird species before arriving at Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2
Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone. Ascend gradually while enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

Arrive at Shira 1 Camp located on the western edge of the Shira Plateau.

Day 3

Cross the beautiful Shira Plateau while enjoying panoramic views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru.

This relatively short day allows additional acclimatization before moving to higher elevations.

Day 4
Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Today’s trek is crucial for acclimatization. Ascend to Lava Tower for lunch before descending to Barranco Camp.

This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adapt to the altitude and increases your chances of reaching the summit successfully.

Day 5
Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Barafu Camp (4,673m)

After breakfast, climb the famous Barranco Wall and continue through the Karanga Valley. Instead of overnighting at Karanga Camp, continue directly to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt.

Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner and rest before the midnight climb.

Day 6
Barafu Camp (4,673m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Around midnight, begin your summit attempt. Climb steadily to Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Celebrate your achievement at the Roof of Africa and enjoy breathtaking sunrise views from the summit.

After descending to Barafu Camp for a short rest, continue down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Day 7

This marks the end of your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure.
