Mount Meru Hiking is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and offers a spectacular trekking experience combining wildlife, dramatic crater views, and excellent acclimatization. Mount Meru Hiking is less crowded than Kilimanjaro and provides a true wilderness atmosphere.
Mount Meru Hiking. The climb begins at Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park, where trekkers may encounter giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and monkeys during the first day’s hike. The trail passes through lush montane forest, open moorland, and alpine desert landscapes.
Mount Meru Hiking. Accommodation during the trek is in comfortable mountain huts (Miriakamba Hut and Saddle Hut), making it a great option for those who prefer hut trekking over camping.
Mount Meru Hiking. Summit day begins around midnight, leading to Socialist Peak (4,566m) at sunrise. From the summit, hikers enjoy breathtaking views of the Meru Crater, the Ash Cone, and — on clear days — Mount Kilimanjaro.
This 4-day itinerary is also an excellent acclimatization climb before attempting Kilimanjaro.
